History of the NCMD
Remembering our founders
Over 40 years ago the government looked at trying to change legislation around our great hobby, and bring in changes to match Europe where detecting is either banned, highly regulated or licensed.
This is when our founders, Trevor and Sue Austen, formed the NCMD to fight those proposed changes. There is no doubt that because of their remarkable determination we still have that freedom to detect, unlike the rest of Europe.
This freedom was hard fought, and we continue to this day to carry on their good work and ensure we keep our liberty to detect. Unfortunately, they are no longer with us, but we are currently working on a fitting memorial to give them the recognition that they deserve.
